- 6 to 9 months out: Slim pickings for Saturdays. Sunday and Friday dates may be available.
- Under 6 months: You're looking at cancellations, off-days, or less popular venues.

Booking a winter or early spring wedding gives you significant advantages:

- Holiday weekends: Memorial Day, Labor Day, and other holiday weekends book 18 to 24 months in advance.
- Location: Venues near major cities book faster than rural properties, though this gap is narrowing.
What to Do Before You Book
- Set your budget: Know what you can spend on the venue before you start touring. Falling in love with a venue you can't afford wastes time and emotional energy.
- Determine your guest count range: Venues have capacity limits. A rough headcount (within 20 percent) helps you evaluate whether a space fits.
- Visit in person: Photos don't capture atmosphere, sound, or the feeling of a space. Tour at least three venues before deciding.
- Read the contract carefully: What's included? What are the add-on costs? What's the cancellation policy? What's the payment schedule?
