Why Hoppenville
retirement parties live somewhere on the estate.
A retirement party runs on a different clock than a wedding, and the estate flexes for it. Most groups land between 30 and 120 guests, which makes both the Welcome Center and the Bank Barn a fit depending on the mood you want. The Welcome Center suits an afternoon reception well: 5,400 square feet with 20-foot ceilings, wrought-iron chandeliers, a stone fireplace, and a full-length patio that opens to the gardens for guests to step outside between toasts. It seats up to 220, so a group of 40 colleagues or a mix of coworkers and family has room to spread out for a cocktail hour or settle into rows for a banquet-style program. The Bank Barn is the other option: a restored 1800s post-and-beam barn seating about 150, with hand-hewn timber, a string-light ceiling, and sliding doors that open to the adjacent lawn, a good fit for a more relaxed, daytime feel. Both venues work as cocktail or banquet, so you can decide whether people mingle or sit for toasts and a slideshow. Catering comes from Robert Ryan Catering & Design or Tosco's Catering, both familiar with lighter afternoon menus. The indoor rain plan is built in at no extra cost, decided together 24 to 48 hours out, so a mid-week date stays easy to book.
